Kelly has been indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Cook County, Illinois.

During a press conference, Kimberly Foxx, the Cook County state’s attorney announced the charges, saying that a grand jury indicted the singer on 10 counts involving four victims identified as “H.W.,” “R.L.,” “L.C.” and “J.P.” Three out of four of the victims were under the age of 17 at the time of the alleged incidents. The incidents took place in the years between 1998 and 2010. The statute of limitations has not run out on the alleged incidents.

Foxx noted that each count is a Class 2 felony in Illinois and carry a potential sentence of three to seven years.

Kelly has been facing allegations of assault for decades, but the full extent of his actions was brought to light with a docuseries Surviving R. Kelly in which some of his victims outlined and described his alleged physical, emotional, sexual and psychological abuse.
